Who is The Second Sister? Understanding Her Connection to the Empire

After the Galactic Republic's decline and the Jedi Order's fall, the Galactic Empire’s authoritative regime took control of the galaxy. The aim of the Empire was clear: to eliminate anyone who opposed its reign. Specifically, after Order 66, which called for the killing of all Jedi in the galaxy, the lives of the Jedi were in great danger from the Empire's Inquisitors.

Emperor Palpatine led the Empire, whose true identity was the Sith Lord Darth Sidious. Under the disguise of being the Emperor Palpatine, Darth Sidious manipulated the events that eventually led to the fall of the Galactic Republic. At first, he misused his roles as senator and chancellor to establish the Galactic Empire.

One such unfortunate Jedi who fell to the dark side and became part of the Inquisitors is Trilla Suduri, later known as the Second Sister. Her journey in the Force is significant as it shows the fate of the Jedi who were hunted down and broken during Order 66. Furthermore, it also shows us the pressure that a Force user experiences from both sides.

So in this blog, we will discuss all about Trilla Suduri’s journey, her abilities in the Force, her shift in personality after falling victim to the dark side and her conflict with the Jedi Knight, Cal Kestis. So without wasting any more time, let us get into it!

The Second Sister’s real name is Trilla Siduri, and she was a powerful Force-sensitive female. Before the Galactic Empire's reign, she was a Jedi Padawan training under the Jedi Knight, Cere Junda. She was a capable young Jedi who was skilled in ways of the Force and lightsaber combat.

During the Clone Wars, Trilla Siduri, with her master Cere Junda, tried their best to protect some young Jedi from the Empire's Order 66. But their efforts were in vain and she was captured by Imperial forces. During this attack, Trilla Siduri insisted that Cere Junda not leave them, but Cere Junda insisted on leading the Imperials away.

Although Cere Junda was successful in escaping her enemies, she was eventually captured and taken to the Fortress Inquisitorius. After brutal torture, she was forced to reveal Trilla’s location, where she was hiding with the remaining young Jedi. The Force Inquisitors soon captured Trilla Siduri and Cere Junda and Trilla Siduri both faced horrific treatment at their hands. After severe trauma and perceived betrayal by her master, she was forced to embrace the dark side. She transformed from Trilla Siduri into the Inquisitor known as the Second Sister.

Now the Second Sister approached her master, Cere Junda, who was strapped to a machine by the Stormtroopers. As Cere Junda recognized her former apprentice, Trilla Siduri, a trooper handed Trilla a helmet. This confirmed her status as one of the Inquisitors. This enraged her former master, Cere Junda, and she tapped into her dark side, releasing a powerful Force wave. This knocked the Second Sister down and killed all the troopers present. This enabled Cere Junda to escape.

Fall of Trilla Siduri and Rise of the Second Sister

Trilla Siduri was kind and compassionate as a Jedi Padawan. She deeply cared for her master, Cere Junda and protected the young Jedi during the Clone Wars.  However, after the perceived betrayal from her master Cere Junda and the harsh torture she endured, her personality became quite dark.

After becoming the Second Sister, she became very cruel and sadistic. Being a sadist, she derived a lot of pleasure and thrill of achievement by hunting down the Force-sensitive survivors for the Empire. She hated the Jedi Order and thought of it as a failure. She was a cunning and intelligent Inquisitor and saw everyone as her prey, whether it be a Jedi or the fellow Inquisitors.

She is known for her sociopathic tendencies of manipulating her enemies and playing with their emotions to understand their fears and weaknesses. On top of that, she used to collect trophies of the people she hunted. Although, despite her arrogant and intimidating nature, she was deeply frightened by her last master, Darth Vader. This reveals her vulnerability under the false facade of being so arrogant of her dark abilities.

She knew of and implemented techniques like Force Dash to move quickly and Force Drain to absorb energy from her opponents. She was also quite talented in anticipating her opponent’s move during combat, helping her in creating good counterattacks. In addition to this, she was good at telekinesis.

Through telekinesis, she used Force Push and Force Repulse to control her surroundings and keep enemies at bay. Moreover, she could also slow her fall, giving her a smooth advantage over her enemies in the battle.

She was able to throw her double bladed lightsaber at a reasonable time, making her a powerful force to fight against in combat. She was skilled in using it at close and from a distance. She was such a skilled combatant that Cal Kestis also believed that he won their duel partly because she was not in a good emotional state during the duel which likely affected her performance.

Furthermore, under the training with Cere Junda, Second Sister learned how to hack into systems and showed her technical abilities when rerouting Cal Kestis’ comm signal. Last but not least, she was also a capable pilot and could fly a TIE/IN interceptor. All in all, Second Sister was a powerful and rare combination of lightsaber techniques, lightsaber combat and Force powers.

Second Sister with Ninth Sister and a few Purge Troopers travels to the Bracca planet to find and kill any potential Jedi. On Bracca, she asked the Scrapper Guild members to hand over the Jedi suspect; otherwise, they would execute the entire guild. As Purge Troopers aimed at the scrappers, Cal Kestis’ friend Prauf spoke out. Prauf criticized the Galactic Empire and also gestured towards the Second Sister in an accusatory manner. In a swift movement, the Second Sister brought out her lightsaber and killed him on the spot.

As a reaction, Cal Kestis tried to split her with his lightsaber, revealing him as the Jedi. But it was a failed attempt and Second Sister blocked this attempt easily with her double-bladed lightsaber. He taunted his action and threw him with the Force towards the Ninth Sister. Cal Kestis turned on his lightsaber which led Ninth Sister to push him off the ledge.

Cal Kestis was able to survive the fall and fought his way towards the front carriage where Cere Junda had arrived to rescue him in the Stinger Mantis. As Cal Kestis tried to escape, the Second Sister shot him using her TIE/IN interceptor and he fell on the platform. She then came close to where Cal Kestis was and turned on her blade. In return, Cal Kestis also turned on his lightsaber and the Second Sister taunted him that she might have killed his master. Both fought briefly until Mantis came back and shot at them separating their locked sabers. Cal Kestis limped onto the ship with Cere Junda fired at the Second Sister. After Cere Junda used the Force to spin the ship, Cal Kestis and Cere Junda were able to escape the formidable Second Sister.

Second Sister's Hunt for Cal Kestis

This led the Second Sister to hunt the two Jedi across the galaxy. Firstly, she confronted Cal Kestis on Zeffo. Next, she raised planets that she thought Cal Kestis had been to such as Kashyyyk and Ontotho. After that, she confronted Cal Kestis at Bogano.

Following this, the Second Sister obtained the Holocron which had the list of Force-sensitive young individuals. When Cal Kestis got to know this, he followed her to the Inquisitorius headquarters on Nur. During this duel between Cal Kestis and Second Sister, he kept using her past, forcing her to relive the trauma of betrayal by Cere Junda and torture by Imperialist Forces to gain the upper hand in the fight.

Eventually, Cal Kestis was able to hit the Second Sister on the shoulder which caused her lightsaber to fall. She also fell to her knees defeated and Cal Kestis forcibly retrieved the Holocron from her.

Cere Junda, the Second Sister's former master then arrived and asked for forgiveness for all the pain she caused to the Second Sister. The Second Sister insisted on how it was too late and how she hated Cere Junda but not with a more neutral face.
