Since his birth, Gungi had been one of the top Wookiees in his class. His sharp mind helped him make wise and intelligent decisions. Gungi joined the Jedi Order in the early stages of his life.

He vowed and cherished becoming part of the Jedi Order in the harsh times of the Galactic Republic.

Even when in training, the young Jedi Wookiee faced numerous hurdles. He was used to constant danger, escaping pirates, and even General Grievous. However, despite the struggles, Gungi passed his training with distinction, finishing his training by traveling to Ilum to retrieve his Kyber crystal.

He, along with five other younglings, was chosen to complete ‘The Gathering’ ritual. During the quest to retrieve the crystal, he faced an unexpected wall of water. Gungi showed patience, waited for the obstacle to be overcome, and used Force meditation, earning the praise of his masters.

Without much difficulty, Gungi became a Padawan and began building his lightsaber under Professor Huynag’s supervision.

Gungi’s Personality

Like most of the Wookiees, Gungi had a temper and lacked patience. The Jedi had a confident approach and was known for his cunning decision-making. Moreover, he was intelligent, and wise, and was recognized as one of the top students along with his peers.

One of the admirable qualities of the Jedi was his courage, both on and off the battlefield. He showed resilience against torture while he was in Vanguard Axis captivity. Furthermore, the Wookiee was brave enough to rescue Ahsoka and fight the pirates on their way back from the Gathering.

Confrontations

Unlike many other Jedi Initiates, Gungi didn’t have an easy start in his Jedi life. Upon returning from Ilum, he and his fellow companions, including Ahsoka Tano, were confronted by pirates. The pirates, led by their captain, Hondo Ohnaka, wanted to seize the kyber crystals due to their high value in the black markets.

Expectedly, Gungi and the team fought back and successfully resisted their opponents’ charge. However, while escaping, they lost Ahsoka to the pirates because of a vacuum created by the vessels.

Before making the journey to rescue back their mentor, the group built their lightsabers. They attacked Hondo’s base by surprise, freeing Ahsoka and her two lightsabers and escaping on a hovercraft.

On the return journey, they were followed by the Crucible, Hondo’s ship, as they tried to flee. The ship caught up to their speeder and fired a missile, leading the craft to crash. The pirates took the entire group hostage yet again.

However, much to the surprise of the group and pirates, General Grievous laid an attack on Hondo’s base. The pirate crew and Jedi younglings saw a common enemy and worked together to free Hondo Ohnaka.  They fled from Grievous' charges in quick time, thanks to combined efforts from both sides.

Gungi and the Jedi Purge

The Galactic Republic consisted of a movement indicating a total wipeout of the Jedi forces. From younglings to wise Jedi Masters, every Force-sensitive being from the Light Side was a target of the Sith Lords.

The movement known as the Jedi Purge led to the killing of many Jedi individuals. There were very few survivors, and most of them were hiding. Gungi, having a temperament for overseeing dark patches, was one of the individuals who still lived as a Jedi in these troubling times.

He somehow evaded the ruling of Order 66 until he was caught by the Vanguard Axis droids. The captors were not gentle and tortured the Wookiee to the maximum. The droids seized Gungi’s lightsaber and decided to sell him to a wealthy suitor at an auction.

During his time as a prisoner, Gunli tried to run but was eventually caught and punished via an electrostaff. The experience was quite horrible and hurt the Wookiee Jedi’s mind. Luckily, Gungi’s torture caught the eye of Omega, a clone selling tampered chain codes. Omega was present with the Clone Force 99 and saw no hesitation in attacking the cruel droids of the Axis.

Together, Gungi and Clone Force 99 members fled the scene with minor difficulties. The Wookiee was more than relieved but shaken from his earlier treatment at the hands of his captors.

He found a good companion in Omega, who offered him support and a way back to his home planet, Kashyyyk. Furthermore, Omega assured the disturbed Wookiee about the Force’s change in allegiances, as the clone group was no longer under the Imperial forces.

It wouldn’t be smart to underestimate Gungi's power and abilities. His physicality and a good skill set with a lightsaber were two of his striking abilities. The Wookie was proficient in telekinesis, as seen in the construction of his lightsaber.

Furthermore, he mastered Force meditation to achieve calmness when making decisions. Impatience was one of his lesser-known qualities, but with the help of meditation, he easily overcame the issue.
