The Real Good Guys
The ending of episode 7 of Skeleton Crew where Jod ignites his blue lightsaber just as the parents are reunited with the kids surely left us at the edge of our seats. This cliffhanger ending made the wait for the season finale episode all the more difficult. But hurray, the new episode is finally here and let me tell you it did not disappoint. This episode made the wait worth it.
The new episode of Skeleton Crew begins where “We're Gonna Be In So Much Trouble” ends. Fara, Fern’s mother, believing Jod to be a Republic Emissary thanks him for saving the kids. Jod, ever the manipulator, spins the story that the kids are in trouble for stealing a ship and putting At Attin in danger of being discovered.
Having complete command Jod orders the Security Droids to confine the kids to their homes and watch them all the time. He also asks the droids to load the old Republic credits in the Onyx Cinder. Wendle, Wim’s father, hesitates questioning if doing all of this is necessary. Fern tries to argue, but Jod cuts her off, offering to take her and Fara along with him to meet the Supervisor. As Jod finishes issuing his orders, the Security Droids escort the rest of the kids and their parents away.
In the home, Wim and Wendle have dinner while being watched by the Security Droid. Wendle tries to talk to Wim about taking his assessment and joining the Great Work. This sparks an argument between them. Wim gets frustrated and almost reveals the truth about Jod but instead he ends up apologising to his dad. He does warn his dad about the danger of the galaxy and the pirate ship waiting outside the barrier but Wendle dismisses it saying the Supervisor will take care of everything.
Later that night, Wim sneaks to his room and tries to call Neel using a walkie-talkie. He begs him so they can go help save Fern, but before they can plan anything further, a Security Droid catches Wim and confiscates the walkie.
At the Supervisor’s Tower, Jod appears in front of the Supervisor, who turns out to be a droid, and tells him the safe lies he has practiced before. But he makes one mistake by calling himself a Jedi and as per the last message sent by the old Republic during Order 66 the Jedi considered enemies of the galaxy. Pointing this out, the Supervisor asks if Jod is lying. Seeing this as an opportunity, Fern tells the Supervisor that Jod is a pirate. The Security Droids quickly attack Jod, but he destroys the Supervisor which shuts down all power in At Attin and all the droids collapse on the ground. Jod finds the Barrier override lever and forces Fara to cooperate under threat. Having no other option the Undersecretary opened the Barrier slightly and Jod called Gunter to begin the pirate invasion.
After landing on At Attin, the pirates cause a lot of chaos. Neel and KB arrive on hoverboards to Wim’s house so they can all go outside the barrier and call Khy’mm for help. Wendle follows the kids on a hoverboard as well. They find their way to the Onyx Cinder and Neel stays behind to provide cover. But a problem arises when they are unable to fly the ship away because of the active docking clamps. So, Wim along with Wendle to the Supervisor’s Tower to get the systems back online as Wendle knows how. Meanwhile on the tower Fern encourages Fara to fight back. Fara distracts Jod while Fern grabs a rifle from a Security droid, but Jod catches what they are trying to do, fires at them and announces his rule over At Attin.
Wim confronts Jod in the tower and bluffs that the New Republic forces are on the way as they found a way to contact them. Jod doesn’t believe him, mocking the lie, while Wendle, who has secretly entered the tower restores power. This allows KB to launch the Onyx Cinder. KB, aided by a partially repaired SM-33, escapes past the Barrier to contact Kh’ymm and is successful. However, she gets ambushed by a pirate ship, and the Onyx Cinder crashes into the schoolyard. This leaves Fern devastated, thinking KB is dead.
On the tower, the pirate corners Wim, forcing him to let go of the barrier override lever. Jod reveals his dark past—watching a Jedi who saved him die during Order 66—claiming the galaxy is cruel and only the strong survive. As Jod begins to monologue about ruling At Attin, Wendle gets frustrated and punches him mid-sentence. A struggle ensues, with Fern and Wim fighting for Jod’s lightsaber. While all of this is happening Fern begs her mom for help.
Taking a leap of faith, Fara helps Wendle and pulls the override lever, collapsing the Barrier completely. The stars and galaxy are revealed as New Republic squadrons swoop in, blasting the pirate fleet. And just like that the Frigate falls and Jod watches his plans crumble.
Fern and Wim rush to the Onyx Cinder, where Neel greets them. The hatch opens, and KB stumbles out, alive, with SM-33 and Snowball. As New Republic forces secure At Attin, Wim gazes at the stars with a smile, knowing the city is finally free.
