Maris Brood was a character from Star Wars Legends. Adrienne Wilkinson voiced her in The Force Unleashed. She was a Jedi Padawan who survived Order 66. However, after her master, Shaak Ti, died, she fell to the dark side. Maris was not a Sith, but fear and desperation drove her to embrace aggression. This change turned her into a dangerous warrior. She wielded dual red shoto lightsabers and could control beasts using the Force. Her story focuses on confronting Starkiller, Darth Vader’s secret apprentice, eventually leading to her redemption.
This blog explores her life, from the beginning to her tragic fall in the Star Wars universe.
Early Life and Jedi Training
Maris Brood was Force-sensitive from his birth. She belonged to Zabrak heritage, the same as Darth Maul. She was taken to the Jedi Temple at an early age. Like all younglings, she learned the ways of the Force and lightsaber combat. Her background gave her an edge in great agility, reflexes, and endurance. Her Jedi training was focused on control, balance, and discipline. Being a capable student among her fellows, she became famous for her strong will and independence.
Maris did not like the concept of emotional detachment in the Jedi principles. In addition, instead of patience, she relied on instincts and passion. This made her a fierce fighter, but it also left her open to fear and anger, which would later be her downfall.
The Clone Wars and Order 66
Maris was at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant when the Clone Wars began. Many Jedi had to take on military roles. Maris, still a Padawan, was too young to lead troops. However, she witnessed conflict and war, which changed her view on violence and survival.
When the Clone Wars reached their peak, the training of Maris ended abruptly. With the execution of Order 66, the Republic fell, leading to the destruction of the Jedi Order. All Jedi were killed in the battlegrounds, and Darth Vader himself attacked the Jedi Temple and slaughtered Padawans and younglings.

Maris escaped the chaos, fleeing Coruscant before the Empire could catch her. Like many other surviving Jedi, she sought safety in the Outer Rim, far from the Empire’s reach.
Hiding on Felucia and Training Under Shaak Ti
Maris was hiding on the planet Felucia. Eventually, she found Jedi Master Shaak Ti, one of the last Jedi Masters on the same planet. Felucia was wild, untamed, and rich in the Force. It was a unique refuge, but also dangerous because of its connection with the Force. The training Maris was not completed on Coruscant, so Shaak Ti helped her learn survival skills.
With time, Maris grew restless and impatient. Unlike Shaak Ti, who embraced peace despite the war, Maris felt angry at the Jedi for failing to protect themselves. Her fear of being hunted by the Empire grew, which negatively impacted her Jedi training.
The Death of Shaak Ti and Maris’ Fall to Darkness
Everything changed when Starkiller, Darth Vader’s secret apprentice, came to Felucia. He had orders to hunt the last Jedi survivors. Shaak Ti refused to flee and faced Starkiller in a duel. They fought fiercely, displaying their skills in the Force and lightsaber combat. Despite her strength, Shaak Ti was overpowered. Mortally wounded, she chose to fall into Felucia’s depths rather than be captured.
With Shaak Ti gone, the planet’s wildlife turned hostile and unstable. Without her master, Maris surrendered to fear. She abandoned the Jedi Code, embracing the dark side as her only path to survival.
Transformation and Wielding Two Red Shoto Lightsabers
Her transformation did not result from ambition like the Sith but from desperation. She wanted protection, not power, as she felt the Jedi way had failed her. She made two short-bladed red lightsabers, known as Shoto sabers. Using her rage, she developed dark side abilities. One of these was Force Beast Control, which let her manipulate Felucia’s creatures. Among them was a massive bull rancor that became her guardian.
Confrontation with Starkiller—A Battle of Survival
Maris Brood had fallen into darkness and now faced Starkiller. He returned to Felucia on a mission for the Rebel Alliance. By then, Maris was no longer a Jedi. She had become a rogue Force warrior, relying on deception and aggression to control Felucia.
When Starkiller arrived, Maris ambushed him. She wielded her dual red shoto sabers in a relentless, acrobatic assault. Maris used her speed and unpredictability to keep him off balance, attacking from many angles. At the peak of their battle, she summoned her rancor, hoping to overwhelm Starkiller with brute force. Yet, Starkiller used his mastery of the Force to defeat the rancor and force Maris into a final duel.
Defeat in the Battle
Although Maris was a fierce warrior, Starkiller defeated her in the battle. Not just this, Maris begged for life, and Starkiller agreed to let her go. Instead of executing her, Starkiller spared her with a warning to leave Felucia before the Empire hunted her down.
The Fate of Maris Brood
After being spared, Maris vanished into the galaxy. Her fate remained unknown in the galaxy. She went into the shadows, leaving several possibilities.
It is expected that she might have found redemption. There are also chances that she has become a bounty hunter, Sith acolyte, or dark-side assassin, deepening her path of vengeance.
The Legacy of Maris Brood
Maris Brood is a unique example of survival, fear, and redemption. She was neither a true Sith nor a Jedi, but a warrior caught between both worlds. Her journey shows how trauma and desperation can pull someone away from the Jedi path. Yet, it also highlights that redemption is always possible. Her choice to leave the battlefield hints that she might one day find peace, even though her story is not complete.
