Anakin Skywalker was born on Tatooine, a desert planet ruled by the Hutts. His mother, Shmi Skywalker, was an unwed mother She called his birth a miracle. Jedi scholars believed Anakin was born from the Force. They saw him as the Chosen One who would restore balance to the Force.

Anakin and his mother, Shmi, lived as a slave under Watto, a Toydarian junk dealer. The future Jedi was quite talented. At the age of nine, he built a protocol droid, C-3PO, and a podracer. These exceptional talents highlighted his mechanical genius and strong connection to the Force. 

Freedom From Slavery

Anakin’s life changed drastically when he met Qui-Gon Jinn. When the Jedi Master first saw Anakin, he sensed something special about him. He was cautious, so he tested Anakin’s Force sensitivity. The midichlorian count was higher than any other Jedi, even Yoda. Qui-Gon believed Anakin was the Chosen One, destined to bring balance to the Force.

Anakin was a slave, so the first mission was to secure his freedom. Qui-Gon bet on the boy’s ability to win the risky Boonta Eve podrace. Anakin faced skilled opponents like Sebulba and showed exceptional piloting skills. He claimed victory in the race. Qui-Gon won Anakin’s freedom, but he had to leave his mother behind. This left a deep scar in Anakin’s soul, which later affected his choices in the Force. 

Path to Becoming a Jedi 

After Qui-Gon's death at the hands of Darth Maul, Anakin became Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Padawan as this was the Jedi Master's last wish. The Jedi Council agreed to this, but they were reluctant. They sensed Anakin's fear and attachment. These traits could lead him to the dark side.

During this time, Anakin had intense nightmares about his mother being in danger. Although the Jedi Order warned him to never return to his past, he convinced Padmé to go with him to Tatooine to see his mother.

A Tragic Loss of Anakin’s Mother

On Tatooine, Anakin found out that his mother, Shmi, had been taken by Tusken Raiders. He tracked her to their campsite and discovered her suffering and near death. Soon after their brief reunion, she died in his arms.

Anakin was filled with grief and rage. He killed everyone in the Tusken village, including women and children. This act marked a key moment in his journey, showing his slide into darkness. Later, Anakin confessed to Padmé, who comforted him despite his violent actions.

The Battle of Geonosis

Anakin and Obi-Wan defended Christophsis against Separatist forces. This mission introduced Ahsoka Tano, Anakin’s Padawan. They formed a strong bond that lasted throughout the war.

The Siege of Mandalore

Anakin got Ahsoka and her Padawan ready for the mission to capture Maul. He gave her modified lightsabers for the task. Although he could not join her, this campaign was crucial for the Republic’s efforts.

Vader’s Role in The First Death Star Construction 

One of Vader’s key roles in the Empire was overseeing the construction of the first Death Star, a weapon of mass destruction capable of destroying entire planets. Vader worked closely with Grand Moff Tarkin to ensure the project’s success. The Death Star became the Empire’s ultimate symbol of fear and control.

Despite the Death Star’s completion, its power was challenged by the Rebel Alliance. During the Battle of Yavin, Rebel pilot Luke Skywalker, unknowingly Vader’s son, destroyed the station. Vader narrowly escaped death, leaving him as one of the few survivors of the Empire’s greatest failure.

The Duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi

Before the Death Star's destruction, Vader encountered Obi-Wan Kenobi for the first time since their fateful duel on Mustafar. The two former allies faced off in a lightsaber duel on the Death Star. Obi-Wan, now much older and going by "Ben Kenobi," chose self-sacrifice, allowing Vader to strike him down.

However, this was not a victory for Vader. Obi-Wan’s death only strengthened the Rebel Alliance’s resolve and allowed Luke Skywalker to escape, ensuring the Jedi legacy would live on.

Rebuilding The Second Death Star 

After the destruction of the first Death Star, the Empire immediately began constructing a second, larger Death Star. Vader played a critical role in overseeing its progress and ensuring it would not share the flaws of its predecessor. The second Death Star became the centerpiece of the Emperor’s strategy to crush the Rebellion once and for all.

During this time, Vader grew increasingly obsessed with finding Luke Skywalker. He sought to corrupt his son and bring him to the dark side, believing they could overthrow the Emperor together.

The Duel with Luke on Cloud City

Vader’s hunt for Luke culminated in a confrontation on Cloud City, during the events of The Empire Strikes Back. In one of the most iconic moments in Star Wars history, Vader fought Luke in a lightsaber duel. The fight highlighted Luke’s bravery but also his inexperience. Vader, using his superior skill, easily overpowered Luke, severing his hand and disarming him.

It was during this duel that Vader revealed the shocking truth: “I am your father.” This revelation sent shockwaves through Luke, shaking his confidence and faith in the Jedi Order. For Vader, it was an attempt to lure Luke to the dark side, but it also stirred feelings of conflict within him—remnants of the man who once was Anakin Skywalker.

The Final Confrontation on the Second Death Star

The Battle of Endor marked the climax of Vader’s story. The Emperor set a trap for the Rebel Alliance, using the second Death Star as bait. Luke, believing there was still good in his father, surrendered himself to Vader in an attempt to redeem him.

Vader brought Luke before the Emperor on the second Death Star, where Sidious attempted to corrupt him. When Luke refused to turn, the Emperor unleashed his Force lightning, nearly killing him. At that moment, Vader faced a choice: remain loyal to the Emperor or save his son. 

Redemption of Darth Vader

In a moment of redemption, Vader turned on his master. He lifted the Emperor and threw him into the Death Star’s reactor core. This act destroyed Darth Sidious and fulfilled the prophecy of the Chosen One. Balance was restored to the Force, but Vader was mortally wounded.

Before he died, Vader—now Anakin Skywalker—removed his mask. He shared a tender moment with Luke. He asked his son to tell Leia about his redemption. Then, he died at peace, finally free of the darkness that had consumed him for so long.
