Exploring the Unique Features of Corran Horn’s Lightsaber

Since the beginning, the Jedi and Sith haven’t seen eye to eye on anything. The primary reason lies in their Force ideologies and purpose in life.

The Jedi believe in a world without evil where justice, peace, and harmony prevail. They portray themselves as the guardians of the galaxy. The Jedi defy any dark influence on the Force and are against manipulation and corruption.

The Sith ideology goes against every Jedi tradition. In their view, the Force is a key to gaining power and ruling the galaxy. Interestingly, they don’t have any emotional or Force boundaries, which doesn’t stop them from using the Force in their ways.

While there are considerable differences between the two sides, it is easy to distinguish them by studying their lightsabers. Lightsabers reflect an individual’s journey and affiliation with the Force. They are the most sought-after weapons in the galaxy and a symbol of power for all Force sides.

Their effectiveness and reliance make them a priceless part of the Star Wars universe. Many legendary characters have had the honor of wielding a lightsaber, influencing the events in the galaxy. These characters undergo unique experiences with their prestigious lightsabers, encountering numerous duels and conflicts.

One of these renowned characters is Corran Horn. Despite joining the Jedi Order late compared to other force-sensitive beings, Horn was a well-respected force individual. His heroics and contributions with his lightsaber were vital in thwarting the dark side of the Force.

Let’s take an insight into Corran Horn’s lightsaber and its special features.

Like any other Force-sensitive individual, Corran Horn’s lightsaber represents his choices and ultimate path. His journey was full of struggles, ranging from grief to betrayal and much more.

Being born to a Force-sensitive father, Corran Horn was unaware of his Force abilities as his father had hidden his Force sensitivity from him from Imperial persecution. He was brought up in an environment where he was secretly given Force education from his father. Initially, he chose a path, similar to his father's, to join the CorSec team, the premier Corellian security agency.

The experience sharpened his warrior instincts and helped him discover his natural pilot talents. Horn’s development in CorSec was fascinating as he earned the rank of a fine investigator. During the process, he lost his mother in a fatal accident and his father at the hands of a bounty hunter. The sudden loss of his parents had a drastic effect on the young Corellian.

He was more determined and focused on reviving justice and order throughout his homeworld. His accolades in the conflicts against the Black Sun earned him a spot in the Rogues, joining some of the best pilots in the Force.

After showing courageous conduct in the Battle of Coruscant, he became a living legend in the New Republic. Horn received a heroic welcome from the surviving Jedi who saw his mastery of the cockpit as the real catalyst to victory. Due to his contributions to the light side, Luke Skywalker extended a personal invitation to the Corellian pilot to join the New Jedi Order.

Initially, Horn refused, citing his previous disappointments and experiences with the Jedi. Despite many efforts, Horn was adamant about not accepting the invitation but was losing his previous reluctance due to the worsening circumstances.

The final blow that led Horn to change his decision was his wife Mirax’s kidnapping. He sought the support of the Order and started training in Luke Skywalker’s Praxeum. He learned about the Force and became familiar with the workings of a lightsaber.

From there on, he became an exceptional duelist, using it to the fullest alongside his Force abilities. Horn actively took part in numerous conflicts, including the Yuuzhan Vong War, where he was influential and a constant threat to the enemy.

His lightsaber served as a loyal partner, aiding him against fierce opponents in many conflicts. Horn’s commitment and passion for the Order led him to become a Jedi Master.

Corran Horn’s Lightsaber

Before making his lightsaber while pursuing the Jedi training, Corran Horn used his grandfather Jedi Master Nejaa Halcyon’s lightsaber which was given to him by Luke Skywalker after joining the Jedi Order. The saber had a silver-blade and had a Corellian touch to it.

After training, Horn underwent many challenges, including his homeworld conflict, where he had to leave his grandfather’s lightsaber. The period of struggle was a realization that he had to follow a different path to be called a proper Jedi. He realized that he had been intentionally following Master Halcyon during his time in the Order.

However, after confronting Leonia Tavira’s group and the pirates, he felt the need to revive himself as a true Jedi. This was the time when Corran Horn started to construct his personal lightsaber.

Horn desired a silver blade for his lightsaber. Hence, he chose the valuable Durindfire crystal found on the Tatooine planet. The crystal’s purpose was to add the silver shade and was an optimal choice for the Horn family. He arranged the rest of the parts, including the hilt, from a cantina called ‘The Crash.’ The pirate club consisted of transparisteel and quadanium steel chunks, remnants of previous Starkiller crash sites.

For the crystal in the middle, he chose the Kubaz xirkonia, a mineral of fake diamonds. Unsurprisingly, the fake diamond did not last long and was burned during Horn’s confrontation with Shala the Hutt. However, he replaced the burn crystal with an emerald and a real diamond stone.

The design was an inspiration taken from one of the columns of a gardening journal of the Corellian System. Interestingly, the design was made by Horn’s step-grandfather, Rostek Horn. He employed a fast construction method that was deemed suitable for emergencies to complete the task in two days.

The result was a finely crafted dual-phase lightsaber and a perfect portrayal of Horn’s journey.

Corran Horn’s Lightsaber Features

Horn’s silver-bladed lightsaber was one of the most unique creations in the New Republic Era. It was personalized and made from salvaged parts, obtained from Courkrus.

One of the most interesting features of the saber was it being a dual-phase weapon. Horn could easily extend the blade’s length up to three meters, depending on the opponent. The system made use of several focusing crystals with a changeable alignment setting. The structure allowed Horn to interchange crystals and alter the blade’s width and length to surprise the enemy.

The presence of transparisteel and quadanium made the saber stronger and more durable. This made Horn easily rely on his weapon when enduring heavy duels. Another interesting feature of Horn’s lightsaber was the diamond and emerald stone. He used each stone to power both phases in the saber. The choice of crystal was smart as it helped him enhance his Force abilities.
