The grandson of Jedi Master Neja Halcyon, Corran Horn was born in the Corellian System to Nyche and Valin ‘Hal’ Horn. Interestingly, the young Corellian was unaware of his grandfather’s Force affiliations. Naturally, Corran was also a Force-sensitive human male with a good potential in Force abilities.

His father, Valin, was a Force-sensitive being himself and taught his son a few exercises while maintaining secrecy. Corran followed the instruction, unaware that he was implying Jedi Force abilities.

He was brought up to follow his father and foster grandfather in the planet’s security Force. His paternal grandfather, Master Halcyon, died before his birth, leaving not much to learn about his Jedi days. Unsurprisingly, Corran’s time in the security force was impressive as he exceeded expectations.

Horn joined the Corellian Security Academy very early, graduating with honors, and worked alongside his father. He was an imperative part of numerous undercover missions against the rebels and the Black Sun Syndicate.

He was courageous, outspoken, and a capable fighter. Despite losing his mother in an unfortunate accident, he continued to excel, showing loyalty to the CorSec force. After a minimal grieving period, he accompanied his father to take down Zekka Thyne, one of Darth Vader’s rivals and Black Sun’s lieutenant.

After successfully capturing Thyne, both the Horns were transferred to the Smuggling Interdiction Division of the CorSec force. At this point, Corran Horn went on to become an excellent investigator. He also mastered his pilot abilities during his time in the new division.

Life didn’t get much easier for Horn as he witnessed his father’s death as a result of an ongoing investigation. A bounty hunter, Bossk, killed his father and companions in a surprise attack. Much to Horn’s disappointment, he couldn’t do much as Bossk escaped. The incident greatly affected the young pilot, who couldn’t fathom a life without his father. He later managed to arrest the culprit, but to no end, as Bossk was set free by one of the division’s members.

From there on, he underwent different challenges, becoming a squadron pilot and eventually joining the Jedi Order.

Joining the Jedi Order

Unlike other Jedi, Corran Horn did not undergo traditional Jedi training. He trained under Luke Skywalker at the Jedi Praxeum on Yavin 4, alongside other students in the first class of Luke’s new Jedi Order. This included notable figures like Kyp Durron and Mara Jade.

Horn, with his fellow squadron pilots, initially chose to go underground and assess the situation. They started a secretive operation, carefully planning and gathering weaponry and other resources to tackle the crisis.

He led a team of four squadron pilots against battletroopers, TIE fighters, and other galactic forces. His heroics with his ship were key to driving away the dark Sith forces from the former New Republic capital. He worked hard to bring down the planetary shields, facing resistance from the opposing Galactic troops.

The young pilot noticed an unusual radar target after successfully returning to his squadron’s base. He consulted a fellow pilot who dismissed it as a sensor malfunction. However, it was a trap set up by Ysanne Isard, the director general of Imperial Intelligence. Isard’s agents remotely accessed his fighter ship’s controls and knocked him over after manipulating a sharp turn. The eager Imperial agents eventually captured him to bring him back to Isard’s headquarters.

Due to a blast on a nearby building on Horn’s fighter’s path, he was thought to be dead. Instead, he was kidnapped and was under the custody of the Imperial Agents. As per the New Republic, Horn died in the explosion, so they gave the maverick Jedi a fine tribute. The suspects in his murder were arrested based on Horn’s previous accusations.

On the other hand, Horn woke up and was told by Ysanne Isard that he would be taken to the Lusankya facility for interrogation. Over there he was subjected to mental conditioning meant to break his will and turn him into an Imperial sleeper agent, but he resisted. The captivity was tough for the young pilot, but he never broke down, much to Isard’s efforts. The brave Corellian escaped by devising a clever plan. He returned to Coruscant amidst a shocked crowd happy to see their hero and savior back.

His return resulted in the newly established Jedi Order finding out about Isard’s underground facility. Isard herself realized that her location was compromised and escaped but killed many innocent civilians on the way. However, in a planned operation, the squadron pilots, including Horn, successfully defeated Ysanne Isard, restoring much-awaited peace to the capital.

During the chaos, Luke Skywalker approached Horn, inviting him to train as a Jedi. He even handed him his grandfather’s silver bladed lightsaber, educating him about the Jedi Master. Horn wasn’t ready to succumb to the request while he still studied the Jedi ideologies closely.

His reluctance was due to his previous experiences. However, the recent events in the galaxy tipped him closer to joining the light side of the Force. He was at war with his conscience, weighing the possibilities and consequences of changing his decision. He remained in doubt for quite a while, afraid of past failures coming back as a result. His hesitancy and deep-rooted issues with Jedi practices resulted in a minor quarrel with Luke Skywalker.

Finally, after much convincing from the new Jedi leader and reflection on his side, Horn joined the Jedi Order. He started training, gaining valuable knowledge of the Force. Due to his previous background, he had a different way of thinking than other Jedi beings. He did not adhere to the strict peacekeeping measures. Instead, he advised enforcing policies that did not lead to extremism. He preferred making decisions without the influence of Jedi analogies.

One of the highlights of his time in the Jedi Order was the construction of his green-bladed lightsaber. The green lightsaber replaced his previous silver-bladed saber, which was of his grandfather and did not last long.

The Troubles of Invids

The Invids were a notorious group of pirates who were the real culprits behind various conflicts for the New Republic. The Order struggled against the Leonia Tavira-led group, especially when Horn’s spouse, Mirak Terrix, attempted to arrest the ex-Moff of the Galactic Empire.

She was kidnapped by the pirates and held in captivity on the planet Suarbi. Interestingly, her abduction was one of the prime reasons that led to Horn agreeing to train as a Jedi. He realized the importance of training as it was imperative to save his partner. During the period, a spirit of Exar Kun appeared to the pilot, trying to lure him to the dark side.

The Dark Jedi’s spirit was adamant, even providing information on Mirax’s location. Horn was not fazed as he successfully thwarted the attempt and asserted complete focus on training. Finally, after participating in several campaigns involving hunting down the pirates, Horn retrieved Mirax with help from Luke Skywalker.

Corran Horn and The Yuuzhan Vong Invasion

When the Yuuzhan Vong invaded the galaxy, the Jedi were in trouble. The chaos and uncertainty in the region hindered the newly established peace terms between the Jedi and Galactic forces.

The planet Ithor became an active battlefield between the Yuuzhan Vong and Republic armies. The Yuuzhan seemed to dominate due to their tendency to resist force powers. However, after a dramatic lightsaber duel between Horn and Shedao Shai, an enemy commander, the conflict was almost at its conclusion.

After defeating Shai, Horn thought the matter was over but was wrong. Shai’s forces were ruthless even without his presence as they released a plague over Ithor. The planet’s ecosystem was severely damaged, leaving Horn guilty and responsible for the destruction.

Despite the setback, Horn was a significant figure in the war, while protecting the Jedi initiates in Luke Skywalker’s absence. He advised on many matters that helped the Jedi limit damage control.

After the end of the Yuuzhan Vong War, the galaxy was in its most vulnerable state. The Jedi Order, in particular, was going through a crisis. There were some leadership lacerations when Skywalker wasn’t around as the public chose a temporary individual.

Sensing his role in the crisis, Horn decided to leave the Order, but the returning master Luke Skywalker did not allow it. He stressed on Horn’s importance in the Republic and consulted him on numerous future conflicts. The maverick Jedi continued his role in the Order, siding with the light side of the Force against the forces like Darth Caedus. He even led the Jedi through his homeworld’s crisis when it entered a state of war.

He was promoted as a Jedi Master as he portrayed excellent leadership skills, influencing many decisions such as the resolution of the Battle of Coruscant. While originating from a non-Jedi environment, he eventually developed a liking for Force sensitivity. By the end of his Jedi training, he was well-versed in mind tricks, battle melds, Force sense, and much more.

He was already a talented pilot and later developed into an admirable leader. Horn also became a lightsaber specialist, having a keen sense of combat from his Corellian training days.

One of the most intriguing things about Horn’s time in the Order was his hesitancy in fully embracing the Order. He was known for being reasonable and wasn’t afraid to speak up against any wrongdoings. His courage and countless contributions to the light side made him one of the most respected force-sensitive beings in the galaxy.
