Previously referred to as Nomi, the young Jedi was born with a huge Force potential. She married early to a soon-to-be Jedi Knight, Andur Sunrider, for whom she had a lot of respect and affection.

Her husband was the first to recognize the extent of her raw Force abilities. He encouraged her to practice and gain confidence in her power, but she wasn’t keen on it. Later on, Andur and Nomi had a daughter, Vima Sunrider, on their new resident planet, H’rrath. They were invited there on the orders of Jedi Master Chamma, who taught Andur about the Force.

After a while, Chamma advised the family to move to the Ambria planet, where Andur would conclude his training under Master Thon. Chamma instructed his apprentice to carry Adegan crystals to the new planet as a favor. However, during a short break in the journey, they were ambushed by a few members of Bogga the Hutt, a gang who heard of their possession of the crystals.

They attacked the couple and their ship. One of the members threw the venomous gorm-worm at Andur, who got bitten and died instantly. The gang members approached Nomi Sunrider and demanded she hand over the crystals or face the same fate. During the confrontation, Andur’s ghost spirit appeared, instructing Nomi to take up his lightsaber and move on from his death. He told her to travel to Master Thon to seek Force training.

Nomi attacked a couple of the members with Andur’s lightsaber, killing them both with immense courage. She managed to drive away the threat and steer the ship to her late husband’s intended destination, thanks to Master Thon’s Force presence.

She eventually arrived in Ambria and successfully located an apprentice of Master Thon, who took her and her daughter to his home. Meanwhile, behind the scenes, Bogga the Hutt was tracking Nomi’s ship as he desperately wanted the crystals in her possession. The gang attacked them in Force but was defeated by Thon’s apprentice, Oss Wilum. The young Jedi assured her of Thon's presence and this was the beginning of her Jedi journey.

She had a delay in her training under Master Thon as she recovered from her late husband’s death. However, after recovering, she was immediately taken up by the Master. He tried to convince her to construct a lightsaber but to no success. She refused constantly, horrified by the idea of killing any further beings.

However, reluctantly, she took Thon’s lightsaber as a gift, learning to wield it under her master’s guidance. At this time of struggle, she was aware of her Force powers and convinced herself to become proficient in her abilities.

Nomi Sunrider and the Chaos in Onderon

Onderon was the first real test for Nomi and her Force abilities. The planet was going through a tumultuous period in which a Sith cult group that followed the late Sith Lord Freedon Nadd called the Naddists was wreaking havoc.

In a series of events, Jedi Master Arca Jeth was taken captive by King Ommin. At that moment, Ulic Qel-Droma and the rest of Jeth’s followers called for help. Nomi Sunrider and four other members were commissioned to help the Jedi in Iziz, the capital of Onderon. She eventually located Qel-Droma and fought bravely against the Nadd forces.

She fought as a leader, showing both her Force abilities and lightsaber skills. She helped Ulic Qel-Droma rescue Master Jeth after he defeated the old King Ommin, ending the conflict for good.

The conflict brought the two knights, Nomi and Qel-Droma, closer. They were well-acquainted and had a great understanding of each other’s personalities. From there on, they were hardly away from each other, taking on the same missions due to their combat expertise and leadership skills.

While recovering from the victory against the Naddists, the Jedi Order learned of a secret Sith society, the Krath. The group launched several attacks in the Empress Teta System, worrying the Jedi leadership.

Ulic Qel-Droma and Nomi Sunrider were given the responsibility to retreat to the battlefield and confront the enemy. Sunrider was influential on the battlefield as she sensed a strong Force presence in the opposing forces. She used her battle meditation skills to bring down the set illusions. However, the battle was lost as the Krath launched numerous missiles, taking down the Jedi forces. The Jedi suffered greatly, mentally and physically. Apart from the dead, there were many fatally injured, including Qel-Droma.

Following the defeat, the Jedi regrouped at a conclave in Mount Meru. They analyzed the defeat and the threat of the Krath. At this instance, Qel-Droma came forward with his infamous plan of infiltrating the Krath from the core. The plan did not gain much support except from Nomi Surider. The incident led both Sunrider and Qel-Droma to confess their romantic feelings for each other.

In a sudden ambush from the Krath at the Conclave, things worsened for the Jedi Order. The killing of Master Jeth encouraged Qel-Droma to follow up on his plan. He left after a brief farewell from Sunrider, who once again began to believe in love.

After not hearing from her lover after his departure, Sunrider grew worried and planned to communicate with him. She took a small team to the Krath capital to find the Jedi Knight’s location. Unfortunately, she was captured by the Krath forces on approaching the whereabouts of Qel-Droma. In a surprising turn, she encountered him, the new king of Krath and a Sith Lord to boot.

She tried to convince Qel-Droma to return to the light side on multiple occasions. She was devastated at learning of his betrayal as she was intolerant of the Dark Side. With time, she realized that the new Sith Lord could not return to his former self. The great Sith War was one of the final turning points, where Sunrider was the one to strip the former Jedi Knight of his Force powers.

Nomi Sunrider’s Special Powers & Abilities

Just like Ulic Qel-Droma, Nomi Sunrider also possessed a natural talent in the Force since infancy. Her most recognized Force powers included battle meditation, a powerful skill that helped her turn her enemies against each other.

She was also proficient in Force deflection, which helped her deflect and evade blaster shots from the opponent. Furthermore, she had the special ability to command animals to use as per her purpose. Later in her journey, she became accustomed to a rare Force skill that allowed her to cut off a Force-sensitive individual’s Force power.

Apart from having more than decent Force abilities, she was a very accomplished user of a lightsaber. She gained a lot from training under Master Thon, who passed on his skill to Sunrider, helping her fight numerous opponents.

The combination of polished Force abilities and excellent lightsaber skills made Nomi Sunrider a force to be reckoned with.
