Lightsabers in the Star Wars universe are far more than just weapons—they are an extension of their wielder's identity, representing their character, values, and journey. In the Star Wars Legends, the transformation of Jacen Solo into Darth Caedus is reflected poignantly through the evolution of his lightsaber. This tale of two sabers—an emerald blade of a noble Jedi and the crimson weapon of a Sith Lord—captures Jacen's tragic fall to the dark side.

Jacen Solo’s Lightsaber

Jacen Solo was born to Han Solo and Leia Organa Solo. He was a Jedi Knight who was deeply devoted to peace and harmony. His green-bladed lightsaber was a testament to his Jedi values, representing his belief in justice, empathy, and balance. He constructed his lightsaber during his training under his uncle Luke Skywalker at the Jedi Praxeum, Jacen’s lightsaber utilized a unique Corusca crystal which was known for its brilliance and power, making the weapon a true reflection of his potential and ideals.

The emerald green single-bladed lightsaber assisted Jacen Solo in numerous outings against the Yuuzhan Vong. The saber strongly resembles Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber because of its design and structure and also because Luke was Jacen’s mentor, it also influenced the young Jedi.

Jacen Solo’s lightsaber was a representation of traditional Jedi values. It prioritized harmony, justice, and goodwill. Jacen did not enjoy the chaos around him, especially during the Yuuzhan Vong War. His lightsaber was a testament to his character to look for peaceful solutions and avoid fighting at all.

During the final days of the war, Jacen was taken captive along with his lightsaber but his lightsaber was taken away from him. Under the mentorship of Vergere, an enigmatic Force user, Jacen reclaimed his saber and began questioning traditional Jedi philosophies. Even though Jacen after his escape returned to the Jedi Order but the seed of his fall was already planted

Darth Caedus’ Lightsaber

Initially, after turning dark, Darth Caedus employed his emerald green lightsaber. Coincidentally, his grandfather Anakin Skywalker also used his first lightsaber, despite falling to the dark side.

Caedus saw his original lightsaber as a connection to his past and a tool for asserting his new vision of order. However, after confronting and killing Mara Jade Skywalker and his former apprentice, Nelani Dinn, he truly became the villain we know as Darth Caedus.

As a result, Luke Skywalker and Ben Skywalker sought revenge and put an end to Darth Caedus’s reign of terror. They took the lightsaber from him and destroyed it. The fate of his lightsaber is still unknown.

After losing his cherished lightsaber, Darth Caedus constructed a crimson lightsaber. The red lightsaber perfectly portrayed his allegiances to the dark side of the Force.

As per rumors, the new red-bladed lightsaber consisted of the ‘BloodBath' red crystal. The structure was made from blackened phrik alloy, making it much more sturdy and powerful.

The new saber had an intimidating look about it. The design was complex and threatening at the same time. The hilt seemed more defined and sharp, matching Darth Caedus’s redefined characteristics. It depicted Caedus’s cold demeanor and thirst for power.

Darth Caedus’s lightsaber made him look dominant and a force to be reckoned with. It was a welcoming change for the Sith Lord, who found something that matched his new persona.

With the new saber, Caedus used more lightsaber fighting styles. He was already a skilled duelist. After changing Force sides, he mastered further fighting forms, making him an even better fighter.

He used this lightsaber till his every last breath.

Symbolism of the Two Lightsaber

While the two lightsabers seem different in terms of physicality and appearance, they help us navigate the transformation of Jacen Solo to Darth Caedus.

Jacen Solo’s green-bladed saber supported his Jedi values of peace and prosperity. He avoided the Sith ideologies as much as possible but later he fell into them, losing his willpower. His lifespan included various atrocities that corrupted his mind, leading to his switch to the dark side of the Force.

The transformation was complicated as Darth Caedus preferred his first lightsaber from his Jedi heritage. However, after losing it, he succumbed to the dark side even more and employed a traditional red lightsaber to affirm his loyalty to the Sith.

The change in lightsabers portrayed a new character who was ruthless, calculating, and willing to do anything to achieve his purpose.
