Who Are the Knights of Ren? Everything You Need to Know

The galaxy contains many enigmatic beings; among them, the Knights of Ren are particularly mysterious. They have appeared from the darkness with shadowy beginnings. They are dark-side fighters striving for devastation. Initially, they made their debut in The Force Awakens while serving Kylo Ren. This blog further investigates the story of the Knights of Ren, examining their origins, philosophy, and eventual fall in the galaxy.

Origins of the Knights of Ren

The Knights of Ren were present during the time of the Galactic Empire’s fall. They were dedicated to darkness but not bound to any rules of the Sith. They all chose their armor and tools according to their preferences.

The Rise of Kylo Ren comic series revealed that a warrior named “Ren” led the group first. The name “Ren” means destructive force. The group followed a specific code of fighting with instincts and living without regrets. Ren himself described their life as:

"The Ren doesn’t stop to worry about what it burns or who it hurts. All that matters is the Ren."

Leadership of the Knights of Ren

Ben Solo first encountered the Knights of Ren while training as a Jedi under Luke Skywalker. He was manipulated by Supreme Leader Snoke, a puppet of Emperor Palpatine. Ben turned against his master and destroyed Luke’s Jedi temple. To prove his strength, superiority, and ties to the darkness, he also killed the leader of the Knights of Ren.

Kylo Ren became the new leader of the Knights of Ren. Under Kylo Ren, the Knights of Ren acted as dark-side enforcers. They carried out assassinations, gathered intelligence, and hunted down threats to Supreme Leader Snoke’s rule.

The Knights of Ren had some Force sensitivity, but they relied more on brute strength and combat abilities. They did not wield any traditional lightsabers of the Star Wars galaxy. Wearing armors, reflecting their chaotic nature, they wielded unique melee weapons.

For example, there were vibroblades, which were electrified weapons that could block lightsabers. Then there were axes and clubs, made for close-quarters combat. Lastly, blasters and rifles were used for ranged combat over Force abilities.

The Fall of the Knights of Ren

In The Rise of Skywalker, when Kylo Ren turned to the light, the Knights of Ren considered him a traitor. They were loyal to Emperor Palpatine and attacked Ben on Exegol. Despite being greater in numbers, Ben Solo used a Skywalker lightsaber and triumphed over them. Without their leader, their faith weakened, and the Knights of Ren collapsed, marking the conclusion of their reign of fear.

Are the Knights of Ren Sith?

A major misconception among Star Wars fans is that the Knights of Ren are Sith. That is incorrect; they do not adhere to any rigid Sith regulations such as the Rule of Two. The Knights of Ren operate like mercenaries for the dark side. They followed the path to strength but did not intend to rule the galaxy like other Sith Lords.

The Knights of Ren in the Mandalorian Era?

As the galaxy grows with new characters like the Mandalores and Ahsoka, fans are eager to explore the history of the Knights of Ren. From The Force Awakens and Rise of Skywalker, very little is known about them. There is hope to explore the characters further with their rich characteristics.

Legacy of the Knights of Ren

In addition to Jedi and Sith, the Knights of Ren enrich history significantly. Even though they are not explored extensively in the saga, their narrative continues to be captivating. They are a formidable dark-side group that functioned beyond all Sith customs.

The Knights of Ren employed their lethal force, adhering to a brutal code of annihilation, strength, and devotion to the strongest fighter. Ben triumphed over the Knights of Ren, signifying their downfall, yet their crucial part in creating turmoil in the galaxy should always be remembered.
